Defragmenting the hard drive is known to improve the performance of a computer. You will find below relevant information and the steps required to Optimize and Defragment Hard Drive in Windows Over a period of time, the files and data stored on the Hard Disk Drive of a computer get scattered around and becomes unorganized. When the Data stored on the Hard Disk Drive of a computer gets fragmented, the computer ends up spending more time for data retrieval as it has to check multiple places on the Hard Drive.
This fragmentation of data is a common occurrence in traditional Hard Disk Drives, which ultimately leads to an overall slowdown of the operating system and programs running on a computer.
This orderly arrangement of data on the Hard Drive minimizes the time required to read and write files, resulting in an overall increase in the data transfer rates on your computer. Since, computers with SDD drives do not need to be defragmented, the Optimize Drives utility works in a different way to optimize the performance of SSD drives.
I notice there's 'Quick' and Full Optimization' in the menu as well. Then it moves them back, sorted by user defined criteria, to speed up access to groups of small files. By default files are sorted by path in ascending order. Is this true? What does this mean?!? Already sorted out by a previous optimization? Is Quick Optimization something that you run again after an initial full optimization??
Yeah, the handbook is up to date and it shows what actually happens when you run the latest version of the program. Whenever you run any kind of optimization either quick or full , either from GUI, or at boot, the program will optimize the master file table first of all, i. Of course, if no unmovable content messes around it will simply join them all together to a single contignuous file.
Quick optimization is exactly the same as the full one, but it skips all the files already sorted out by the previous optimization. So, it's a good idea to run the full optimization and then the quick one whenever neccessary from time to time.
My recommendations for the above tasks would be two utilities- CCleaner for diskcleanup freeware and nothing like Diskeeper09 for defrag. Automatic and low free space defrag being outstanding features. Name required. Email required. Please note: comment moderation is enabled and may delay your comment.
